Ask HN: How simple is the HN ranking algorithm?

Over 2,000 days ago, pg claimed that HN was ranked like this: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=231209

I just tried to submit this link as an Ask HN article and it was marked [DEAD] instantly for some reason?

I am curious if anybody has a working MySQL implementation of the reddit ranking algorithm.
