Ask HN: How do you grow/monetize your email newsletter list?

I'm the creator of www.noonpacific.com which got press early on and reached 10,000 subscribers quickly. I've slowly grown over the past year to 14,000+, but lately it's pretty stagnant. What methods do you use to grow your email list and what unique things have you done to monetize your list?
