Ask HN: Recommendations for Statistics textbooks or classes?

I'm trying to gain a solid mathematical understanding of statistics so that I can start learning data analysis/machine learning.

Do you have any recommendations for online classes? Also, a good textbook would be indispensable. I've searched on amazon but "Statistics for Complete Idiots" books abound.
