Ask HN: Possible negative effects of introducing coding tests to the interview process?

I wrote up a short coding quiz for my boss to give to candidates during the interview. This will be the first time candidates are asked to write code in an interview. I ran the questions by coworkers and they seemed ok. Now the coworkers seem to be giving me the cold shoulder. I am new to the company. Has anyone experienced negative side-effects of doing something like this?
