Ugh. After The Social Network I can't think of anybody worse to be doing any movie about startups and tech.

I liked the social network for what it was, a story of mostly fiction. Wasn't the majority of its faults, however, a result of the source material and not Sorkin?

Yeah, based heavily off the book The Accidental Billionaires, which has received heavy criticism -- And agreed, I thought it was a fictional movie based on loose reality but I really enjoyed it, felt very Shakespearean in the betrayal parts of the story.

Yeah. I have to agree with you. It's alright folks in Silicon Valley saying "but it's not true" about the Social Network. To almost everyone else, outside the industry and outside of Silicon Valley this is not only the factual story of Facebook, it's the model for how Silicon Valley works. I really don't look forward to a fictionalized version of Jobs which similarly whiffs on all the key points and paints another false picture, entertaining though it will no doubt be. If he wants to write a fake Silicon Valley movie don't do t featuring real-life people.

Right. He only won an Oscar for The Social Network and was nominated this year for Moneyball. Just terrible!

I absolutely _loved_ The Social Network. Forget that it was totally fictional and made up. But it was the first movie that _raised_ the status of geeks in the eyes of the average joe.

The Social Network portrayed how real world power and influence has shifted from the Winklevoss type to the Hacker-nerd type. Non-nerd friends of mine came away from that movie with a new found respect for geeks.

I guess I watched it fully knowing that it was going to be a fiction loosely inspired by Zuckerberg's Facebook beginnings. In that light, it was pretty entertaining (to be fair, I'm a Trent Reznor fan).

It wasn't a documentary and I'm not sure why people expected it to be. Text is a far better medium for conveying nonfiction given that aspects of Eisenberg always shined through his character and the writers are going to be injecting something "fake" or artificial regardless of how factual they may or may not have tried to keep it.

Aaron Sorkin is, no doubt, a genius himself. But this sounds more like a stage play rather than something that would work as a movie.

Sorkin's work does always tread a fine line into a slightly theatrical/stagey feel. Particularly the uber-dialogue he gets his characters to say... and I say that as a huge fan.

His TV stuff can get preachy (see Newsroom/Studio 60/West Wing) but it's never less than marvellous to watch even it is a bit of a heightened reality.

Agreed. My main worry is that he will artificially cram too much in those three, real time events.
