Ask HN: Finding a US job as an American expat?

Has anyone had success using their American citizenship status as a way to get a US tech job or a company based in the US with an EU presence to get better pay?

I’m an expat in the UK and considering a change. Is it much harder? UK salaries are very low and cost of living is very high, so trying to open my options.
