Not sure why you didn't link to the original post instead (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44496458), but in any case that flagged link was to AppleInsider's low-effort copy instead of the source.

I understand that @tomhow (an HN moderator) considers the AppleInsider article (vs. the source linked to above) as properly flagged because it didn't include any "significant new information". I greatly respect the nuance that good moderation requires, but in my opinion the notable new bit is that the U.S. government is now escalating with public threats against the developer.

"US Attorney General Pam Bondi was on Fox News Monday talking about ICEBlock, when she spoke directly about Aaron, the app’s sole developer. 'We are looking at him,' she said. 'And he better watch out.'"

Additionally, Todd M. Lyons, the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, described the app as "reckless and irresponsible" and falsely claimed that the app is designed to incite violence against ICE. The administration is setting him up to be disappeared without due process. This seems like a safety/freedom issue worth being aware of.

I linked it because it explains why the story is not a good HN story and it's not because of the Appleinside blogspam - to my reading, the modcomment is fairly clear about that. You can mail hn@ycombinator.com if you want them to take another look at it.

The HN-meaning of 'significant new information' includes 'is it going to produce a significantly different discussion'. It's not going to produce a significantly different discussion than the one last week as far as I can tell but that's an argument you can make yourself.
