Trump wants TSMC Arizona to become a foundation stone for his American golden age. But the company's story to date is perhaps the ultimate expression of the success of modern globalisation.

In other words, isolation is for idiots.

It is tantamount to economically shooting yourself in the foot. It doesn't lead to "greatness" but rather to decline --- a less prosperous, less competitive, less relevant society.

It is simply not a tenable approach to the world and TSMC Arizona is the proof. Just look at history. Every empire of consequence has been characterized by increased and expanded trade, not isolation.

No society has ever isolated itself into "greatness" --- and America won't be the first.
