Show HN: Tokie – A file manager that turns folders into Notion-style databases
https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43652185Hi HN,
I want to share a new project I built — Tokie, a file manager alternative that turns a regular folder into a Notion-style database.
The idea started when I realized how limited the default file manager experience is. I always wanted to:
- Add custom labels and status fields to files and folders - Take notes inside a folder and edit them inline, without opening a separate app - Save links or web references to a folder, so they stay with related files and research
Basically, I wanted folders to do more than just store files — I wanted them to work the way my brain does when I’m organizing, researching, or building something.
So I built Tokie to bring some of the flexibility of online productivity tools into a local desktop file manager.
It runs on macOS (M-series chips only for now). No signup required.
Try it here: https://tokie.is
Would love feedback on the idea, UX, and what workflows you'd want it to support! and maybe connect to your online apps(which is possible in future iterations)
