In the context of recent events and controversies, it seems difficult to ascribe good will to the posting of this.

Not that this derogatory usage would have looked good a few years ago. The roots of the word seem to be here -

Using the name of an ethnic group as a derogatory slur, after they've been wiped out by the (arguably) most powerful empire of their historical age, strikes me as a fairly despicable behavior.
