This scam is also widespread in Portugal, I know of several victims (including my father, who almost fell for it)

Brazilian police are so effective that thousands of scammers are already in jail when they call!

Same in Mexico. The usual reaction is to say the name of someone else when they say your kid is on trouble. If they say yes you know it's a scam.
