I'm very young, not from the US and looking to move to the valley to be around more ambitious people. Any tips or things I should know? Neighbourhoods to consider? Areas to be in? What to avoid? How to meet people? Hidden gems?

IMO it kinda sucks unless you're very rich and don't mind everything being overpriced and super-crowded. Traffic is horrible, there's not a good sense of community, all the fun and outdoor places are packed and parking is impossible. People are too focused on their own ambitions to really make time for others. It's all about the $$$ now =/ I spent my childhood and early adulthood there and saw it change and get much more capitalistic and lose its charms over the years. It's quite the hellhole these days, IMO. I'd avoid the entire region altogether...

There's so many other nicer places to live in the USA, both up and down the coasts and in inland "islands", typically bluer metropolises with young people and jobs and diversity surrounded by vast tracts of ag and rural areas with a lot of poverty. Tech is pretty spread out these days too, so if you find a job somewhere else, it's worth checking that area out before settling on the Valley.

College might be a good starting point since you're young

If you do end up there, De Anza College in Cupertino is a great community college. But very expensive area to live in.

It's one cheaper way to get some tech education while waiting for your California residency (and thus in-state tuition) to kick in.
