Best Practices for Research Non-Profit?

I see numerous articles about best practices for running non-profits (e.g., https://www.method.me/blog/5-best-practices-for-running-a-nonprofit/) but I can't find much material that is targeted specifically at research non-profits, whose business is research (mostly funded by grants) rather than providing some sort of service. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
