This is an incredibly poorly written article. First, cops lie more often than they don't. Second, saying that a taser, "administers a shock of about 1.9 milliamperes" means absolutely nothing. Third, errors like "Taser's are designed" make me wonder what kind of "journalist" could've possibly written this.

Well one, it appears that this article is just an amalgam of articles from other sources, two, most news sources just run the press release from the cops. See especially #4, “Officials/sources say…” https://fair.org/home/copspeak-7-ways-journalists-use-police...

Sources cited in the article: "statement from Birmingham police department", The New York Post, Daily Beast report.

Finally, this from the article "The police said they ordered both directors to stop their bands' performances to allow cops to clear out the stadium". Why the hurry?

Oh, and it should come as no surprise that the band director is Black and the high school is 85% Black.
