In Illinois, for example, approximately 79.1% of households with children cook with gas, whereas in Florida, the figure is only 9.1%. States with a higher percentage of children living in households with gas stoves have higher proportions of current childhood asthma attributable to gas stove usage.

Wait, holdup. Gas is 8x more common in Illinois? If there was an actual link wouldn't we expect to see much more than the minor difference in Asthma rates?

It seems more likely there is something else going on. Like for one thing, the correlation between places with cold, dry winters and the use of gas fixtures.
