DietPi is a lightweight Debian based Linux distribution for SBCs and server systems, with the option to install desktop environments, too. It ships as minimal image but allows to install complete and ready-to-use software stacks with a set of console based shell dialogs and scripts.

The project released the new version DietPi v8.10 on October 22th, 2022.

The highlights of this version are:

    Radxa ROCK 3A now supported
    Amiberry, vaultwarden, Sqeezelize, Shairport Sync, GMediaRender: Changed to use the latest version for installation
    Home Assistant now includes Home Assistant Community Store (HACS) integration by default
    bugfixes for Dietpi-Drive_Manager, FreshRSS, Roon Bridge and Cloudshell

I highly recommend DietPi. Along with Armbian is one of the best non vendor specific Linux distros for single board computers out there; the list of supported boards is great, and steadily growing. I would always suggest them in place of the specific distros from the boards manufacturers pages, the reason being that when boards are declared obsolete, especially cheap ones, they usually also stop any further development and/or updates for their distros, which doesn't happen that soon with those two, so I always choose boards supported either by Armbian or DietPi. Also, they can be installed both on VMs for testing, and native on non ARM systems too, that is, PCs, which makes them good candidates for old systems, laptops etc.

Thanks for all the hard work! Best RPi distro out there. I'm using DietPI for my k3s cluster, it is great!

Recently moved over all of my Raspberry Pi boxes to DietPi and I have been absolutely loving it so far! Much more performant than other OSes that I've tried out of the box.

I love DietPi... except their SSH settings.

Beceuse RPi doesn't have AES instructions it's SSH file transfer is slow. They can accelerate this using ChaCha20-Poly1305 then transfers speed will be 3x compared to AES-256.
