As title says, I guess I'm looking for a multi-cloud service focused on storage specifically. Being able to provision and delete storage on-demand from any big cloud providers. Mostly looking at it from the distribution perspective, being able to provision storage in more locations, with more options in terms of hardware. Any clues?

there are some 'decentralized' cloud storage services I stumbled upon recently when researching along similar lines to your question. Thanks for the suggestion, but not looking for blockchain type of storage, that's a can of worms in terms of security and availability/reliability in my opinion

I suspect you could do something like this with MinIO. That seems to be their thing.

This is supported by MinIO, but not "as a service." Essentially you run MinIO everywhere (AWS, GCP, Azure, IBM, on-prem, OpenShift, Tanzu etc). In the public clouds you can either roll your own or use the marketplace offerings.

In effect, you are choosing MinIO object storage over the "stock" object storage (which is incompatible with the other clouds).

You can use MinIO's ILM policies to replicate, tier, etc.

You still pay for compute, network + drive but then pay MinIO vs. S3/Blob. There will be no egress fees.
