You start by making your first sale, then you're a company.

The questions are how do you make your first sale? What are you selling? How will anyone know that you're selling something?

1. There are administrative tasks such as registration of your corporation and there are basic tasks/resources required for your services (i.e. what software/certifications/hardware needed?)

2. Forming a team should come second after assessing your market if you’re just starting out but finding out who you can work/partner with is useful.

3. Start with your immediate network and branch out. Other methods will take sometime. Partnerships could be key.

It varies based on which level you are at. If you're a beginner, start as a freelancer. Find projects from your existing network. Bootstrap. Slowly build a core team as you get more projects.

Trust me, your first clients will come from your immediate or extended network. Ask people for introductions. It works!

I'm in the beginning stages of this and this is just one data point, however:

1. LLC (or even under your own name is fine (I don't remember the costs, but under $100). You'll also need business insurance (I'm paying $70/month).

2. When my first contract needed help, I posted it on upwork, got 16 applicants, interviewed 4, started a contract with 2 and eventually working with 1.

3. Immediate close network. Helps if they work at a FAANG company (or if you did). Once you're in the system and have a few connections, it can steamroll into larger contracts.
