I love to read. I was browsing through the top apps on the apple App Store and found a free app called Libby. It lets me check out books from my local library - and it gave me a link to create a library card and check out ebooks. It’s actually pretty amazing, and I regret not knowing that checking out ebooks from your local library (at least in the US) is a thing.

Anyway - my favorite purchase is a Kindle. Im actually frugal and struggle with the concept of paying for digital items. So, I’d like to read ebooks, but again I can’t stomach paying for something I don’t own.

I check out books on Libby, and there’s a send to Kindle function. This is pretty dang amazing.

Most books I’m interested in are immediately available, or there’s a couple week wait at most.

I’ve gone from reading a couple books a year to now reading a few books each month.

I’ll tell you what I love about the Kindle. Turn on dark mode, and the thing is super easy to hold and read, even when you’re laying down. As a matter of fact, I always fall asleep reading. Now the books I read are all checked out and have to be returned. I don’t want to lose the notes or highlights I create in these books, so I just use the export functionality and send everything to myself over e-mail.

And I have folders set up on an old MacBook where I have my notes and highlights clean organized by genre and book title.

On older kindles at least, they had time not date. If you keep it off wifi(so manually copy the books from the manage Kindle page), your local copy never expires. It still returns for the next person but you can read it later

I do read a lot as well. One of my favorite purchases is also reading-related. It's the 'professional bookrest' - just a simple bookrest from wood. Could be every other really, but the bookrest has improved my reading experience greatly. Decreasing neck and back pain. Also overall more relaxing: put a book there, fixate the current page, get comfy and enjoy reading :)

A bookrest is something I didn't know I needed until I heard of it. If you don't mind me asking, what position(s) do you usually read in?

Birkenstock sandals for use around the house. Uncomfortable for a couple of days, then incredibly comfortable.

Yep, I’ve been converted.

But last year, rather than the sandal version, I got the closed toe, leather slipper versions. And I wear them everywhere. To the point where the sole wore out in 9 months, but I had a cobbler replace it.

My only gripe with the sandals is that rocks, twigs, etc come in from the front. It still happened, but far less commonly with the closed toe.

I haven’t used mine outdoors yet due to quite an unpredictable climate out here in Ireland. Thanks for the recommendation, may give the fluffy close toe a go!
