Ask HN: What's with the paste icon?

I just realized, after years of using it, the icon on the "paste" button is a clipboard. Why?

"Cut" is scissors. Makes good sense.

"Copy" is two identical pieces of paper (usually). I can see that too.

But "paste"? It's a clipboard. Wouldn't a glue stick or a roll of tape be more appropriate?

Thoughts?
