Ask HN: Why does Apple force users to upgrade macOS to use AirPods?

I think it's typical Apple, but forcing the users to upgrade just because they want to use the AirPods is next level. Due to lag issues on Big Sur, I downgraded to El Capitan on my MBP 2015. But now Apple won't let me use the AirPods!
