Ask HN: Does anyone have a guide for filing the overseas U.S. tax return?

As a savvy computer user, I was asked by a friend if I know how to make sense of the mandatory U.S. tax filing requirements she must adhere to, as a U.S. citizen who lives overseas.

She's rightly infuriated that when she called the IRS, they said "I'm sorry, due to budget cuts we cannot help you line by line".

I'm fortunate enough not to have to worry about this but I know if I was, I would have written myself a clear, reusable guide or custom-designed web form I could refer to every year. Does anyone have something they would be willing to share, that I could pass on to her?
