Ask HN: Tool to query/plot data (SQL, JSON etc)

Which are the best products or frameworks to query & plot data?

Normally I'd write rather complex queries in Python or Javascript, grab the data from JSON APIs and SQL databases, and plot them via D3. I know there are products out there that could do this, but which ones would you recommend? (Could be paid if it's a sensible amount.)
