Ask HN: Data Science certificate program worth it?

I have a diploma in Computer programming from a Canadian college. In Canada college are more practical while universities are more theory based. Since my graduation in Aug 2016, I haven't been able to get a programming job. I am now thinking of doing a Data Science certificate program at UofT School of Continuing Studies. I was wondering if programs like these are worth it? Has it helped anyone get a job?
