Ask HN: Minimum Viable Courses

HN is full of people with diverse backgrounds and skills, can we create a wiki/blog about minimum viable courses about different programming languages or APIs or platforms? Free resources would be awesome, followed by a couple of books that come highly recommended. I think it would really help people who just want to dive in to something. Inspiration from Zed's Learn Python the Hard way and Rebecca Murphy's JQuery course.
