Twitter Dictionary Definitions

When I use Twitter through the web I see dictionary definitions of Twitter related web apps on many pages - which seems like a good avenue for advertising. Unfortunately I can't find any information on where these terms come from - are they submitted, or just chosen by Twitter staff?
