Ask HN: Suggested Curriculum for scaling web applications and services

There is a lot of material teaching the basics of programming and computer science. I have been hard pressed to find information that will help an experienced developer build scalable systems. Ideally, when starting a project, I want to know _how_ to start in order to make something that will actually be able to scale without pain points and/or obviously pitfalls.

Are there any suggested material that can get me started on learning about how to think about scaling and project starting?
